January 11th 1983 

The Ensemble's first concert (St Martin-in-the-Fields, London). Programme: Mozart Piano Quartet No.2 in E flat, Schubert 'Trout' Quintet. Players: Paul Barritt (violin), Gustav Clarkson (viola), Josephine Horder (cello), Peter Buckoke (double bass), William Howard (piano)

October 12th 1983

First concert with Jane Salmon, cello (Falmouth)

December 1983

First overseas tour (to Hong Kong)

May 30th 1984

First Wigmore Hall concert. Premiere of first commission: Triptych by Colin Matthews

 

September 13th and 16th 1984

Two Smetana Centenary concerts, Purcell Room, South Bank Centre, London

March 1985

First of many British Council sponsored tours (to Hong Kong, South Korea, and Singapore)

January 12th 1986

First concert with Roger Tapping, viola (The Stables, Wavendon)

May 8th 1986

First live broadcast for BBC Radio 3 (lunchtime concert at St, George's, Brandon Hill, Bristol)

November 11th 1986

First concert with Jackie Shave, violin (Pangbourne College)

Summer 1987

Ann Senior (Ensemble Manager 1987-2018) starts working for the Ensemble

23rd to 25th October 1988

First CD recording (Schubert and Hummel for Hyperion Records)

June 1989

Creation of the Schubert Ensemble Trust

15th June and 5th July 1989

Mozart/Fauré Series at Wigmore Hall

26th September 1989

First live TV performance (Frank Bridge in Prague)

November/December 1989

First visits to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and Brunei (British Council)

November 1990

First tour of South America (Ecuador and Peru, British Council)

20th June 1991

First concert with Douglas Paterson, viola (St. George's Bristol)

5th July 1992

First of many appearances at the Cheltenham International Music Festival

(and premiere of Judith Weir's piano quintet I Broke off a Golden Branch)

July 1993

Performances of all of Beethoven's works for three instruments in five concerts

at the Cheltenham International Music Festival

21-28 August 1993

First of many residencies at the Dartington International Summer School

October 1993

First of many tours to Canada and the USA: Vancouver (BC), Corvallis (Oregon), Eugene (Oregon), Peterborough (Ontario), Markham (Ontario)

 

March/April 1994 

British Council Tour of Malaysia (Kuching, Miri, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, including workshops with the Malaysian National Symphony Orchestra)
