Peter Buckoke is known as one of the few solo Double Bass players in Britain. He has played by invitation with, the Chilingirian, Endellion, Arditi, Alberni, Allegri and Coul String Quartets. He has been a member of Odaline De La Martinez's contemporary ensemble, Lontano and and has played with the Nash Ensemble. Peter's first professional position was as no.2 in the bass section of Teatro La Fenice in Venice, in 1977 he moved from Venice to London to take up the same position in the orchestra of English National Opera. From 1980 he has freelanced in London. Peter has played Guest Principal Bass for the Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment including three opera seasons at Glyndebourne. In 1989 he accepted the invitation to become professor of Double Bass at the Royal College of Music where he also teaches the Alexander Technique. Peter is the man in the Cabaret duo 'A Man A Woman and A Double Bass', with Cellist/Soprano Lowri Blake.
